Dépistage du diabète gestationnel : étude descriptive transversale dans des centres de santé marocains

Gestational diabetes is growing worryingly in Morocco. The objectives of this work were to describe the frequency of risk factors for gestational diabetes, in particular diet, study screening practices among at-risk groups. A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out at the health centers in Fez in March-April 2014. The sample consisted of all pregnant women attending the antenatal clinic and who did not have pre-existing diabetes. Data were collected anonymously. In total, 51 women were included, half of whom had modifiable risk factors for gestational diabetes, including overweight or obesity (43% of woman had BMI ≥ 25). Screening for gestational diabetes was performed in 21% of all pregnant women during the second prenatal visit. This proportion was even lower among women at risk: 6% in women with BMI ≥ 25 (P = 0.4), and 11% in women aged 35 and over (NS). A multidisciplinary approach to prevention is a necessity to integrate the clinical, socioeconomic and cultural aspects.
