Identification of success factors for the reintroduction of the critically endangered species Eryngium viviparum J. Gay (Apiaceae)

The introduced seeds showed very low germination rates for both sites whereas contrasted results were obtained with adult transplantations. Survival rates appeared to be influenced by the microtopography but not by the season of transplantation. The establishment of a new generation has been observed, leading to the increase of the population size on both sites. The results of this experiment demonstrate that the reestablishment of Eryngium viviparum' populations in restored sites may encourage the reintroduction of the species on a larger scale.
