Prosody and the syntax of indeterminates

I will extend Kitagawa and Deguchi's (2003) prosodic study of wh-question constructions to indeterminate constructions in general. I will generalize the Watanabe paradigm (Watanabe, 1992a) originally defined for wh-interrogatives to indeterminates in general. I will show that the Watanabe paradigm once lost in a narrower perspective is regained in a broader perspective.

► Wh-inderminates under the scope of mo ‘even/also’ have two distinct prosodic patterns.
► Raising Intonation (RI), unique to wh+mo, has not been properly analyzed before.
► Various aspects of wh-island effects in RI are closely examined.
► Additional wh-effects of Watanabe, 1992a and Watanabe, 1992b re-surface with RI.
