A note on “An exact method for cost-oriented assembly line balancing”

Amen (International Journal of Production Economics 64 (2000) 187) considers a cost-oriented assembly line balancing problem with wages and capital cost (CALBP-W) which generalizes the well-known simple assembly line balancing problem (SALBP-1). For solving CALBP-W, he develops a branch-and-bound procedure which utilizes several dominance rules. In this note, we show that one of the rules is incorrect and give a corrected and a simplified version of this rule. As a theoretical basis, we formulate a mixed-integer program for CALBP-W.
