Nowadays, the society is characterized by universal features, but it embodies distinctive elements for every economic system and social category. In an ordinary society, rewards usually stimulate competent individuals, regardless of their social background, both from an economic point of view (through money and goods), but also symbolically (through respect). Instead, the chance to penetrate a world dominated by a variety of crises is inevitably determined by social hierarchy. This paper presents the poverty impact on economic development, both in Europe and in Romania, in the last years, marked by poverty risk and social exclusion. Our primary objective concerns the estimation of poverty, in its absolute but also relative line. Finally, we draw the conclusion that the complexity of the current issues is triggered by three main elements namely: the headcount index, the poverty gap and the squared poverty gap. Any pattern used in order to quantify the differences caused by poverty, concentrates on a single aspect: how to reduce the impact of this phenomenon on economies.
