Field-induced ordering phenomena in ferrofluids observed by small-angle neutron scattering

We report on the evolution of inter-particle correlations of several concentrated Co ferrofluids in an external magnetic field. Starting from randomly oriented segments of uncorrelated chains in zero field we observe alignment of chains along an external field and the set-up of pseudo-crystalline hexagonal ordered domains when the strength of the magnetic field is increased.
