آشنایی با موضوع

لیتوسفر از چندین صفحه عظیم تشکیل شده است. این صفحات قاره‌ها و کف دریاها را می‌سازند. این صفحات بر روی یک لایه زیرین چسبناک نیمه‌جامد به نام آستنوسفر قرار دارند. این صفحات نسبت یکدیگر در یکی از سه نوع "مرز صفحه‌ای" در حرکت هستند. مرزهای همگرا یا تصادمی، مرزهای واگرا یا مراکز انتشار، و مرزهای دگرگونی تدریجی. زلزله‌ها، فعالیت‌های آتشفشانی، کوه‌سازی و ایجاد حفره‌های اقیانوسی در امتداد مرزهای این صفحات رخ می‌دهد. سرعت نسبی حرکت این صفحات متفاوت است و از صفر تا 100 میلی‌متر در سال تغییر می‌کند. صفحات تکتونیکی از دو نوع لیتوسفر تشکیل شده‌اند: صفحات ضخیم‌تر قاره‌ای و صفحات نازک‌تر اقیانوسی. بخش بالایی یا سطحی صفحات که "قشر" نامیده می‌شود نیز دارای دو نوع قاره‌ای و اقیانوسی است. در نتیجه یک صفحه ممکن است صرفا قاره‌ای یا اقیانوسی باشد یا از ترکیبی از هر دو تشکیل شده باشد. هنگامی که دو صفحه در مرزهای همگرا در تلاقی با یکدیگر قرار می ‌گیرند، صفحه سنگین‌تر به زیر صفحه سبک‌تر مِی‌‌لغزد و به درون جبه زمین می‌رود. این پدیده را فرورانش می‌نامند. در مرزهای تخریبی یک صفحه به زیر یک صفحه دیگر می‌رود. همواره این صفحه‌ای اقیانوسی است که می‌تواند به زیر یک صفحه‌ی دیگر، قاره‌ای یا اقیانوسی، برود. تا بحال مشاهده نشده که یک صفحه‌ی قاره‌ای به زیر صفحه‌ای دیگری فرورانده شود. سبک‌تر بودن سنگ‌های پوسته قاره‌ای نسبت به پوسته اقیانوسی فرورانده شدن آن را غیرممکن می‌کند. فرآیند فرورانش ازدیاد سطح ناشی از فرآیند گسترش کف اقیانوس‌ها را با فروراندن پوسته اقیانوسی خنثی می‌کند. در امتداد یک مرز تخریبی صفحه فرورونده خم می‌شود و گودال‌های اقیانوسی را بوجود می‌آورد. این گودال‌ها که دارای عرض کمی هستند بسیار عمیق‌تر (بطور متوسط ۷ کیلومتر) از عمق متوسط اقیانوس‌ها (۵ کیلومتر) هستند و حتی عمقشان به ۱۱ کیلومتر هم می‌رسد. در اثر خم شدن پوسته و فشرده‌شدن آن به درون زمین قسمت بالایی صفحه فرورانده می‌شکند و باعث بوجود آمدن زلزله در محدوده عمقی ۱۰ الی ۷۰۰ کیلومتری می‌گردد. بزرگترین و عمیق‌ترین زلزله‌ها در مناطق فرورانش اتفاق می‌افتند. در زمین‌شناسی به منطقه‌ای از زمین که دو پوسته از سطح کره زمین به سمت یکدیگر حرکت کرده و یکی از پوسته‌ها بزیر پوسته دیگر می‌لغزد، پهنه فرورانش گفته می‌شود. از ویژگی های مناطق فرورانش می توان به زلزله های قدرتمند و زلزله های عمیق اشاره داشت. گاهی اوقات به موازات برخورد دوپوسته قاره ای و اقیانوسی، ایجاد رشته کوهها و همچنین کوههای آتشفشانی را می توانیم داشته باشیم.
