Al-Qaeda: ¿cómo legitimar discursivamente la violencia contra Occidente?

ResumenAl terrorismo se le ha considerado un fenómeno mediático, indiscriminado e irracional que genera múltiples controversias en la opinión pública. Sin embargo, para los actores que incurren en este tipo de acciones, esta herramienta es estratégica tanto en el ámbito operativo como ideológico, ya que buscan causar el mayor daño posible, infundir miedo, caos y, paradójicamente, allegarse nuevos seguidores. En este sentido, ¿es posible justificar la violencia contra la población civil? En este artículo, se busca responder a esta interrogante a través del análisis de los tres comunicados emitidos por la red islamista Al-Qaeda en el marco de los atentados cometidos en los Estados Unidos de América, España y Gran Bretaña. El objetivo es conocer las estrategias discursivas empleadas por la organización para posicionar el terrorismo como “acto de justicia”, y con ello realizar una especie de liberación moral de la violencia.

Terrorism has been considered a media phenomenon, an indiscriminate and irrational act that generates multiple controversies in public opinion. However, for actors who engage in this type of action this tool is used as a strategy in the operational and ideological level, since they seek to cause the most damage, instill fear, chaos and paradoxically, find new followers. In this sense, is it possible to justify violence against civilians? This article seeks to answer this question by analyzing the three communiqués issued by the Islamist Al-Qaeda network in the context of the attacks in the United States of America, Spain and Britain. The goal is to understand the discursive strategies employed by the organization to position terrorism as “act of justice “, and thus make a kind of moral freedom from violence.
