Placental abruption in the United States, 1979 through 2001: Temporal trends and potential determinants

The temporal increase in rates of abruption may reflect a true increase in risk or may be the result of improved diagnosis of both abruption and its determinants. Although the cause of abruption is still speculative, the trend is of concern and deserves scrutiny.
