Zastosowanie technologii mikromacierzy w onkologii dziecięcej

Cancers occurring in children create an important and difficult section of medicine. There is a large diversity of cases, and their diagnosis is often difficult because of the lack of specific symptoms. Expression profiling with microarray technology is nowadays used in studies of pediatric hematological malignancies and solid tumors. In many studies, expression profiles were obtained to enable their accurate classification, monitoring the clinical course, evaluation response to treatment and prognosis. Using genetic profile it is possible to identify new subclasses of children tumors, to search for new genetic markers with prognostic significance, and to develop therapies tailored for the patient. This paper presents an overview of recent studies of the use of genome and transcriptome monitoring techniques for cancer cells in childhood oncology.
