Enhancing the core scientific metadata model to incorporate derived data

► We study the problem of managing provenance of derived data in scientific research. ► There are significant gaps in this increasingly important area. ► Extensions to the CSMD model are introduced to accommodate derived data. ► An implementation is described to showcase the practical employment of the model. ► The challenges and opportunities for adopting the extended model are discussed.
