► Aging effects on sorption/desorption of PAHs were sorbent/sorbate specific. ► Aging time significantly increased Koc of humins, not for dissolved humic substance. ► Reversible desorption fraction (frd) declined over aging time. ► The frd had a strong positive relationship to O/C ratios of natural organic matter. ► Molecular property had important impact on sorption and desorption resistance.
