Horse heart cytochrome c entrapped into the hydrated liquid-crystalline phases of phytantriol: X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopic characterization

► SAXD and Raman study of Cyt c entrapped into the phytantriol/water phases. ► Cyt c induces transformation of Q230 and Q224 cubic phases to Q229 phase. ► Heme of Cyt c in Q230 phase retains its low-spin state and 6-ligand coordination. ► Cyt c induces spectroscopic changes of Phyt bands similar as decrease in temperature.
