Unique liquid crystal behavior in water of anionic fluorocarbon-hydrocarbon hybrid surfactants containing oxyethylene units

► A hybrid surfactant 8F-B2ES having oxyethylene units in one of the tails was synthesized. ► 8F-B2ES forms vesicles, which became distorted at temperatures below 40 °C. ► Hydrohpilicity of the 8F-B2ES bilayers increased with decreasing temperature. ► These unique properties suggest the possibility to generate oxyethylene-based quasi ion channels.
