Modal analysis of an artificial wing mimicking an Allomyrina dichotoma beetle's hind wing for flapping-wing micro air vehicles by noncontact measurement techniques

► The modal property of an artificial wing was investigated by a non-contact measurement method. ► A high speed DIC method was successfully used to construct the mode shapes of the wing. ► The combination of DIC method and laser displacement sensor is very promising for modal analysis. ► The high speed DIC is useful to study the dynamic characteristics of insect wings.
