Probabilistic fracture mechanics by using Monte Carlo simulation and the scaled boundary finite element method

► A simple, accurate and efficient approach to evaluate the shape sensitivity of stress intensity factors is proposed based on the scaled boundary finite element method. ► A large range of crack size and orientation can be modeled with a single mesh and no remeshing is required. ► The uncertainties in the crack geometry are considered in the reliability analysis of cracked structures.
