Optimised loads for the simulation of axial rotation in the lumbar spine

► Optimal loading mode was determined for simulating axial rotation of the lumbar spine. ► A compressive follower load of 720 N and a pure moment of 5.5 Nm should be applied. ► Applying these loads leads to the best agreement with in vivo measured values.
