► This study investigates improvements in the ability to resolve obsessional doubt following Inference Based Treatment. ► Participants diagnosed with OCD who improved their ability to resolve doubt showed a significantly better treatment outcome. ► Improvement appeared mostly due to the lowered impact of possibility based information following treatment.
