► Using ERPs, we examine hedonic context effects on emotional picture processing. ► Previous findings regarding emotional modulation of the EPN and LPP were replicated. ► Neither EPN nor LPP components were modulated by context valence. ► Emotional image processing is driven primarily by the valence of the current picture.
