Impact of the economic recession on the European power sector's CO2 emissions

► CO2 emissions are simulated for the European power sector. ► Emissions reduced drastically because of the economic recession in 2008 and 2009. ► Lower electricity demand had highest impact and accounts for reduction of about 175 Mton. ► Impact of different CO2 and fuel prices on emissions is more limited.
