Highly ordered C60 films on epitaxial Fe/MgO(0Â 0Â 1) surfaces for organic spintronics

► Highly ordered C60 monolayers are demonstrated on ferromagnetic Fe(0 0 1) surfaces. ► These monolayers exhibit a quasi-hexagonal arrangement of molecules. ► Strong substrate-molecule interactions play a dominant role in overlayer growth. ► C60 multilayers are (1 1 1)-textured on Fe(0 0 1), mismatch between monolayer- and bulk lattices prevents in-plane epitaxy.
