Enhancement in mineralization of a number of natural refractory organic compounds by the combined process of sonolysis and ozonolysis (US/O3)

► Utilizing solely ultrasonication or ozonation is a practiced method for removing the color in wastewater containing HA or TA. ► The synergetic effects observed for the overall degradation (mineralization) of the HA and TA reflect the potential applicability of the US/O3 combination for minimizing the survival time of the intermediates. ► The physico-chemical properties of the US/O3 combination can be attributed to the mechanical effects of cavitations, which increased the mass transfer, and the enhanced decomposition of O3.
