Dicarboxylic acid esters from the carbonylation of unsaturated esters under mild conditions

Palladium complexes are used as catalysts for the methoxycarbonylation of unsaturated esters and acids to α,ω-diesters with very high selectivity. The double bond can be conjugated with the original ester function or even deep in a hydrocarbon chain.
