Synthesis of gem-difluorides from aldehydes using DFMBA

Both aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes could be converted to the corresponding gem-difluorides in good yields by the reaction with DFMBA and Et3N-3HF under microwave irradiation or conventional thermal heating.
