Effect of chain length on the formation of intramolecular and intermolecular products: Reaction of diols with cyclotriphosphazene

► Cyclotriphosphazene was reacted with the alkoxide form of seven 1,n-diols. ► Two types of products (spiro and ansa) were formed by intramolecular reactions. ► Three intermolecular types of products (single-, double- and triple-bridged) formed. ► Quantitation of the products was made by 31P NMR of the reaction mixtures. ► The proportion of bridged compounds increases with the chain length of the diol.
