Competition of methyltrioxorhenium (MTO) with osmium tetroxide (OsO4) for pyridines binding: Ligand binding assay

► We have measured the competition of MTO and OsO4 toward pyridine. ► We have measured the coordination ability of MTO and OsO4 toward lewis bases. ► The equilibrium constant for the reaction OsO4·L + MTO = MTO·L + OsO4, has been measured. ► An acceptable linear relationship between ΔH and ΔS is observed.
