► Effective wind-dispersal of spores facilitates extensive gene flow. ► Predominantly outcrossing promotes accumulation of genetic diversity. ► Clonal growth in less disturbed sites reduces genetic diversity to a certain degree. ► A number of ways lead to high genetic diversity and low population differentiation.
