TiC/a-C:H nanocomposite coatings as substitute for MoS2-based solid lubrication in helium atmosphere

► TiC/a-C:H coatings with good balance between hardness and toughness were deposited. ► TiC/a-C:H coatings exhibit super-low friction and lower wear rate than MoS2. ► TiC/a-C:H coatings are good solid lubricating coating for helium applications.
