The influence of magnetostriction on the shape of the hysteresis loop of cyclically deformed single crystal nickel

The effects of magnetomechanical coupling during cyclic deformation of single slip oriented single crystal nickel were investigated. The coupling caused a distinct constriction in the stress-strain hysteresis loop. The results are discussed in terms of the intensity of the constriction, the applied plastic strain amplitude, dislocation substructures, and magnetic domain processes.
