Texture effect on microyielding of wrought magnesium alloy AZ31

► The Young' modulus of AZ31 alloy is higher in the c-axis of grain, which is confirmed by both experiment and an EPSC modeling. ► Microyielding is initiated by activation of basal 〈a〉 slip without respect to texture but the stress at which microyielding occurs depends on texture. ► The microyield strength normalized by the macroscopic yield strength shows an inverse relation with the average Schmid factor for prism 〈a〉 slip.
