Influence of functionalization on properties of MWCNT-epoxy nanocomposites

▶ Functionalized MWCNTs by oxidation increased flexural stiffness up to 55% over neat system. ▶ Storage modulus showed significant improvement for nanocomposites with functionalized MWCNTs. ▶ There was improvement in the dispersion and chemical interaction of MWCNTs in the matrix. ▶ Covalent functionalization of MWCNT is beneficial for use in epoxy systems. ▶ Chemical functionalization by fluorination produces HF which degrades flexural properties.
