Mechanical testing of titanium/aluminium-silicon interface: Effect of T6 heat treatment

▶ Reinforcement of AS7G matrix by Ti is achieved by insert moulding. ▶ T6 heat treatment increases load level for damage onset for bimetallic assembly. ▶ Untreated: failure by void nucleation at eutectic Si particles near the interface. ▶ After treatment: selective migration of Si towards the Ti insert by solid-state diffusion. ▶ Number of Si particles decreases in the vicinity of the insert/alloy interface.
