► Ru-doping converts antiferromagnetic Nd0.5Ca0.5Mn1−xRuxO3 into ferromagnetic. ► Large magnetic entropy change and relative cooling power for 3% Ru-doping. ► Dope at the Mn-site to enhance magnetocaloric effect.
