Large electrocaloric effect in highly (001)-oriented 0.67PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3-0.33PbTiO3 thin films

► Highly pure (001)-oriented 0.67PMN-0.33PT thin films were grown. ► The thin film possesses excellent properties including a large electrocaloric effect. ► The large electrocaloric effect is attributed to the large polarization and entropy change. ► This discovery widens the potential applications of ferroelectric thin films.
