Experimental background for rf upgrade in the relativistic heavy ion collider

► Beam-gas induced experimental background at RHIC is caused by the electron cloud. ► The electron cloud is enhanced by higher intensity and shorter bunches. ► This background may become a luminosity limiting factor for RHIC rf upgrade. ► RHIC experience and simulation results are reported. ► Some possible mitigations are discussed.
