In silico identification of novel hevein-like peptide precursors

► The first fungal and three novel plant hevein-like peptides were identified. ► The novel hevein-like peptides were predicted as antimicrobial peptides. ► Their predicted structures are similar to previous reported lectins structures. ► The fungal hevein-like peptide may have an unusual disulfide bond in its structure. ► The novel hevein-like peptides are predicted to bind to chitin oligomers.
