Effects of land use on the level, variation and spatial structure of soil enzyme activities and bacterial communities

► Cultivation decreased the level and variability of soil enzyme activities. ► Bacterial community structure was highly specific to land use. ► Soil enzyme activities were primarily determined by SOM content. ► Microbiological variables showed no or only weak spatial structure at 0.5-10 m in visually uniform plots.
