Differential roles of miR-199a-5p in radiation-induced autophagy in breast cancer cells

► We found that miR-199a-5p suppresses IR-induced autophagy in MCF-7 cells. ► Both DRAM1 and Beclin1 are novel target genes, which are suppressed by miR-199a-5p in MCF-7 cells. ► Surprisingly, overexpression of miR-199a-5p promotes autophagy, as well as DRAM1 and Beclin1 expression in MDA-MB-231 cells. ► Modulation of miR-199a-5p alters the radiation responsiveness of breast cancer cells.
