CDPKs are dual-specificity protein kinases and tyrosine autophosphorylation attenuates kinase activity

► CDPKs are classified as Ser/Thr protein kinases. ► Several CDPKs are shown to autophosphorylate on Ser, Thr and Tyr residues. ► Tyr-24 of soybean CDPKβ was identified as an autophosphorylation site. ► Autophosphorylation of Tyr-24 attenuates peptide kinase activity in vitro. ► Tyr phosphorylation may play a role in calcium/CDPK-mediated processes.
