Basal expression of copper transporter 1 in intestinal epithelial cells is regulated by hypoxia-inducible factor 2α

► Intestinal copper uptake is increased in hypoxia. ► Hypoxia increased Ctr1 mRNA expression in Caco-2 cells. ► Chemical suppression of hypoxia inducible factors proteins did not block the increase in Ctr1 mRNA in hypoxic cells. ► We conclude that increased Ctr1 expression in hypoxia is HIF-independent.
