Transcriptional repression of TWIST1 gene by Prospero-related homeobox 1 inhibits invasiveness of hepatocellular carcinoma cells

► We find PROX1 directly binds to TWIST1 promoter to repress its transcription. ► PROX1 inhibits TWIST1-induced AKT2 to reduce cell migration and invasion. ► We provide a molecular basis by which PROX1 functions as a tumor suppressor.
