The catalytic domain of MMP-1 studied through tagged lanthanides

► A paramagnetic tag was attached to matrix metalloproteinase 1. ► Pseudocontact shifts and paramagnetic residual dipolar couplings were collected. ► Available protein structures are in bad agreement with the experimental data. ► NMR data were used to validate and obtain an improved solution structure.
