Myotoxicity and nephrotoxicity by Micrurus venoms in experimental envenomation

► We studied whether Micrurus venoms cause kidney damage in experimental animals. ► We found that some Micrurus venoms can cause severe local myotoxicity. ► Myotoxicity is apparent in venoms of high phospholipase activity. ► Venoms which are myotoxic also cause renal lesions. ► Myo- and nephrotoxicity should be considered in the Micrurus toxicological picture.
