Segregation of donor cell mitochondrial DNA in gaur-bovine interspecies somatic cell nuclear transfer embryos, fetuses and an offspring

► Sex of donor fibroblasts has no effect on the gaur-bovine iSCNT embryo development. ► Donor fibroblasts mtDNA could be detected during all developmental stages. ► Gaur-bovine iSCNT fetuses and an offspring transmitted both population of mtDNA. ► Varying degrees of heteroplasmy were observed in the iSCNT fetuses and an offspring. ► High percent of donor cell mtDNA does not guarantee the success of iSCNT offspring.
