Feline bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show similar phenotype and functions with regards to neuronal differentiation as human MSCs

► Feline bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can be harvested and expanded in vitro. ► The markers of MSCs were similar to those reported for human MSCs. ► Feline MSCs can differentiate into functional neurons as determined electrophysiologically. ► The neurons express GABA receptors. ► Feline MSCs appear to show similar properties as human bone marrow-derived MSCs.
