Fluoxetine suppresses calcium signaling in human T lymphocytes through depletion of intracellular calcium stores

- Fluoxetine suppresses the rise in [Ca2+]i after T cell receptor activation.
- The effect is due to depletion of intracellular Ca2+ stores.
- No effect of fluoxetine was observed on capacitative calcium entry.
- Fluoxetine inhibits Ca2+ release in response to inositol trisphosphate or caffeine.
- Inhibition of Ca2+ signaling is likely at the basis of fluoxetine-induced immunosuppression.
