Somitogenesis in the anole lizard and alligator reveals evolutionary convergence and divergence in the amniote segmentation clock

► Expression of segmentation clock genes in reptiles-the green anole and alligator. ► Anoles share with anamniotes a hes6a gradient and no lfng expression in the PSM. ► Anoles share with mouse but not chicken cycling expression of delta-like 1 (dll1). ► Alligators display no LFNG expression in the PSM and no cycling expression of DLL1. ► Anole and alligator reveal convergent & divergent evolution in amniote somitogenesis.
