►The basket/stellate cells (B/S cells) were absent in the RBP-J-deficient cerebellum. ►Pax2+ neural progenitors for B/S cells derive from Sox2+/Pax2− progenitors. ►RBP-J promotes differentiation of Sox2+/Pax2− progenitors into Pax2+ progenitors.
