Atheroprotection via cannabinoid receptor-2 is mediated by circulating and vascular cells in vivo

► We have analyzed the role of CB2 during atherogenesis in mice. ► CB2 deficiency aggravates atherogenesis. ► Activation of CB2 attenuates atherogenesis. ► CB2 mediates beneficial effects on vascular and inflammatory cells in vitro. ► CB2 deficiency is associated with altered vascular levels of endocannabinoids.
