Probenecid: Novel use as a non-injurious positive inotrope acting via cardiac TRPV2 stimulation

► We describe transient receptor potential vanilloid 2 (TRPV2) in the murine heart. ► We have identified a novel property of probenecid as a positive inotrope. ► Probenecid does not cause a positive inotropic response in TRPV2−/− mice. ► Probenecid increases myocyte cytosolic calcium concentration. ► Probenecid does not cause electrophysiologic changes in the murine heart or myocyte.
